All coursework, lessons, examinations, and assignments require proficiency in English. For this reason, students' English skills will be measured via an on-campus placement test before they enter the academic program. If placement tests indicate a need for remedial English and / or English as a Second Language (ESL), the College reserves the right to reduce or change a student's course load accordingly.
Health Requirements for all Students
Students are required to submit a properly and fully completed health form that provides a complete physical and health history prior to the first day of class. Failure to complete this form may cause a delay in the registration process. The Office of Admissions automatically mails health forms to students, once they have been accepted. These forms arrive with other documents in an information package.
Documented Immunization
In accordance with Connecticut Public Health Act 89-90, all higher education institutions require each full-time or matriculating student born after December 31, 1956, to provide proof of adequate immunization against measles, mumps and rubella. The State of Connecticut requires two inoculations. The first dose given after 12 months of age and after January 1, 1969. The second dose must have been given on or after January 1, 1980. In accordance with Public Act 01-93, beginning in 2002, all higher education institutions require each student who resides in on-campus housing be vaccinated against meningitis.
To be exempt from inoculation at the College, students may (a) present a certificate from a physician stating the immunization is medically contraindicated, (b) provide a statement that such immunization is contrary to religious beliefs, or (c) present a certificate from a licensed physician that the student has already had a confirmed case of such disease and is therefore immune.
In addition to MMR and meningitis, it is recommended each student be up to date on tetanus (within 9 years) and tuberculosis (tested within the past 3 months of physical exam). Documentation of immunizations must be signed by a licensed physician.
Deferred Admission
If an accepted student wishes to defer the start of program for up to one year, a request should be made in writing to the Office of Admissions.
Applicant's Responsibility
It is the applicant's responsibility to respond truthfully and accurately to all questions for admission. Any applicant who gives false or misleading information on an application can be disqualified for admission.
If Clemens College accepts an applicant and subsequently discovers that the student has given false or misleading information on the application, the College may terminate the student's privilege to continue his or her education without reimbursement.
