Clemens College Culinary Arts Associate Degree is the First to Win Approval in Connecticut

For decades, students wishing to earn a degree in culinary arts have had no choice but to enroll in a program outside the state's borders, because there has never been an approved degree program in culinary arts in Connecticut. Clemens College is proud to announce that this has changed: The College now offers an Associate in Science Degree in Culinary Arts Management featuring a comprehensive culinary curriculum as well as a thorough grounding in modern management theory and techniques.

A meaningful advantage for Clemens College culinary students is that the College's Career Services office has worked for many years with the finest restaurants and hotels in the world. Because these fine properties have hired hospitality graduates in the past, they are already aware of Clemens College’s reputation for quality. Many have been asking for interns and graduates from a culinary program with the same high standards.

Tad Graham-Handley, Clemens College President, explains an interesting facet of the new program: Our chefs and faculty have created an AS degree program because upon completion, we have found that many students wish to go on to earn a baccalaureate degree or even a masters. Unlike an AOS or an AAS, which are usually considered terminal degrees, credits from an AS degree program, especially at a regionally accredited institution like Clemens College, are more likely to be accepted as transfer credits at other institutions. This gives Clemens College graduates a built-in career advantage, even if they do not decide to pursue additional degrees immediately.
